Great code,
[I mean great idea, I'm not qualified to comment on the code quality, sorry!]
How about adding it as a PHP snippet on Drupal.org?

Hi Again,
I finally got to test this code.
It works pretty well.
I came across one problem, and because you linked to this page from the Lullabot site, it is relevant.
Where an image is tagged with multiple tags, sometimes the thumbnail browsing 'jumps' from one gallery to another.
If image1 is tagged with tagA
image2 has tagA, tagB
and you are browsing the gallery for tagB.
When you are viewing image2, it thinks the current gallery is for tagA and the 'previous' image is image1.
I guess it might have some to do with the order of tags.
I'm trying this out in a 5.1 installation and while it doesn't break anything it doesn't seem to be doing anything either. Should this work for any image that has a taxonomy term attached to it?
Great code, [I mean great
Small Issues..

It works fine with single tags in any case.
